Using the iPad keyboard

I am trying to get use to using the onscreen keyboard with the iPad The biggest problem I seem to have is that I keep missing the space bar so I invariably have words that run together. I wonder if I was using the Apple iPad case that allows it to be propped up - would that make a difference?
